Industry



There are many relics of old industry here in the Witton area. From the serpentine meanderings of the LEEDS AND LIVERPOOL CANAL to the paper mills, including the dying STAR and long since burned-out MOON (the remains of which are situated by the River Darwen near Riley Green, roughly between the Hillock Farm and remnants of Feniscowles Hall).

The mills of the Stanworth Valley, on the Roddlesworth River (remains of which can still be seen), were built at around the time the Fieldens were thought to leave Feniscowles Hall. This former sylvian idyll, formerly destroyed by this and cut through by the Canal, now boasts the dubious pleasure of the M65 motorway, extended in the 1990’s.
